Seventeen things my mother taught me

Seventeen things my mother taught me: 1. Pack light for trips. If you forget something, you can buy it when you get there. 2. Don’t lock your luggage, they’ll just cut it open to steal your stuff, or steal the whole thing. Better to leave it unlocked and lose a few things. 3. If you’re packing a cardboard box, tape it on every one edge, and around each plane for structural integrity. Better safe than sorry. 4. Always be polite. 5. A long walk helps to cure headaches and menstrual cramps. 6. Peroxide cures almost anything. 7. Don’t bleed on the floor. 8. Treat your grandparents well. 9. It’s okay to show cleavage, but don’t wear your skirts too short. 10. If you own a pet, you take care of it properly for the rest of its natural life. You do not acquire a pet lightly. 11. Men like smart women. 12. Men like women who laugh a lot. 13. You can always be kind to people, no matter how tired or busy or scared or unhappy you are. 14. Buy generic – you get the same quality at a lower price. Also, buy on sale. And don’t afraid of thrift shops, or discount stores. 15. Take care of the people you love, no matter what. 16. You’re stuck with the family you’re born with, but you can always more – people you love become family with enough time. 17. If you love someone, make sure they know it.
