Fucking morons. Monday. I was worried that I secretly hate my job because I hate getting up in the morning, but Jeni says I just hate getting up in the morning. I suspect she may be right. Oh, I just read the follow-up article. That’s better. I took a Southern Poverty Law Center unconscious association test to see if I was biased against homosexuals. The result: Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Gay people I suppose that’s all right. When I lived in Iowa, my roommate Suzi always told me that she didn't like the Southern Poverty Law Center’s philosophy of “Teach Tolerance.” She felt that as a lesbian she didn’t want to be merely tolerated. I see her point, but the SPLC does a lot of good stuff. You can spend a long time at their website. And I’m not sure you can teach love or acceptance – maybe all you can do is teach tolerance and hope that the rest follows. Check out their website, there’s enough stuff there to keep the average person busy for hours. In other news, Kir finds himself a little distressed by Mike and Gulnara’s extremely traditional marriage. He says that Mike will ask him if he wants a cup of coffee, and if Kir says yes, Mike will send Gulnara to go get it. And while we know its their marriage and they should do what makes them happy, it is still disturbing. However, Mike’s mom will be in town on March 26 to be there when G has the baby, and she’s a pretty solid feminist. If there is anything going on there that Gulnara doesn’t like, Mike’s mom will fix it. My stomach hurts today, pretty badly. I have no idea why. I’m trying to wait it out. Orcinus is a brilliant and insightful blog that can keep you reading for hours. An example, I think, of one of the great strengths of the internet. I would like to do something like that about Turkmenistan, something that focuses on serious political and historical analysis of events here. I don’t think the world knows nearly enough about what’s going on in this country, and there is no credible resource that aggregates quality information and analysis about Turkmenistan. I don’t think it would be safe for me to do a blog like that, though. It could get me both fired and deported, and quite possibly arrested, if it was traced back to me. (If anyone has ideas about how it could be done, let me know.) In the meantime, you can read Eurasianet.
