trying not to cry
14 September 2001 2:44 pm
This entry is not going to be about terrorism. I am determined. The comment from Monkeymind in my notes section made me feel odd. Does this journal really make me seem like that kind of prig? I know he meant to be complimentary, but I checked out his journal, and I can't see what I would find that's so shocking, unless my diary really makes me sound like an uptight priss. I suppose I should really just be all excited people are reading. I'm back in Tashkent now, and when I can stop crying and compulsively watching CNN, I will post some diary entries I wrote in Bishkek. It's a pretty little city, and I would like to visit there again. It's interesting in part because in Bishkek they didn't bother to tear down all the old Soviet symbols, they simply got on with the business of building a free-market economy. So you see hammer and sickle sculpture next to internet cafes. I shouldn't have to say this, but I will, in part because of things I have read here on diaryland: Islam is not a religion of hate. Islam is a religion of peace. In Islam, it is wrong to murder another human being, no matter what faith they belong to. Muslim did not celebrate the terrorist attcks. We mourned. All Muslims should not be held responsible for the lunatic acts of terrorists any more than all Christians should be held responsible for Oklahoma city. For more information, go here
